Peruvian Independence Day
On July 28, 1821 Peru declared its independence from Spain. This sparked a war and full independence was not won until 1824.
Peruvians celebrate with two full days of festivities which include bullfights, fireworks, parades, exhibitions and fairs. At the fairs they show the national products and indigenous foods and crafts.
In the Misti Indian village of Curahuasi, they have a celebration of Independence with greased-pole-climbing contests and bull and condor fights.
